Success Isn’t Meant for Extroverts Alone

I learned that introverts prefer to think before they speak, while extroverts tend to think as they speak. I also learned what energizes introverts (solo activities) versus extroverts (social activities). While I’m not typically shy, or socially anxious, and I thoroughly enjoy people — in doses — I catch my breath during my quiet time. Think Garbo in a cubicle. Except that I would emerge refreshed from that cubicle as the perfect corporate butterfly. If I had to.

I’ve long believed that Toastmasters is an introvert-oriented organization (go ahead, prove me wrong in the comments), and here’s an article that shows how one introvert learned to use her preferences to her advantage (had to struggle, actually) in business, speaking and participating in meetings included.

I missed this article while I was hurrying through the Times this morning. Thanks to Denise Graveline for pointing it out in The Eloquent Woman blog, where you can also find a post on using your speaker personality type.
